As part of the strategy to reinforce the position in rapidly developing economies and also to satisfy demand locally, the plan calls for the construction of a factory in Indonesia, Pirelli's first in the country, for the production of motorcycle tyres destined to Asean and Export markets.

The plan, for which a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed, is now being defined and calls for a partnership between Pirelli, with a majority position (60%) and  Astra Otoparts, an Indonesian leader in the production of auto sector components.

The new factory will require a total investment of 90 million US Dollars, starting in 2012 and spread over three years. Production is expected to begin in 2013 and reach full operation in 2016, with an annual production capacity of seven million motorcycle tyres.
