US Department of Labor announces grant to assist
Massachusetts workers affected by layoffs
WASHINGTON -The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a
$2,697,185 grant to assist about 345 workers affected by
layoffs from AdLife Healthcare LLC, Fidelity Investments,
Fidelity National Information Services Inc., Hanscom Air
Force Base, IAP Worldwide Services Inc., National Grid USA
Service Co. Inc., Quantech Services Inc. and Sun Life
Financial at locations throughout Massachusetts.
"The federal grant announced today will provide
crucial job training and placement services to dislocated
workers in Massachusetts," said Secretary of Labor
Hilda L. Solis. "This assistance will help qualify and
connect these workers with jobs in growing local
industries."
Awarded to the Massachusetts Department of Workforce
Development, the grant will provide employment-related
assistance, including intensive job search and support
services. The layoffs began during fall 2011 and are
expected to continue through fall 2012.
National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of
labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a
state's ability to meet specific guidelines. More
