U.S. Department of State : Department of State to Host Google+ Hangout on How Young People Are Transforming the Health World

01/09/2014 | 10:55am US/Eastern

Secretary Kerry's Special Adviser for Global Youth Issues Zeenat Rahman and CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps Barbara Bush will participate in a Google+ Hangout on "How Young People Are Transforming the Health World" at 9:00 a.m. EST Wednesday, January 8.

The Hangout will feature young professionals who will discuss innovative solutions to global health problems and how they partner with local organizations in Africa and elsewhere to improve access to healthcare. The Hangout will address how young people are having an impact in global health and will also highlight some of the U.S. Government's contributions to global health efforts.

The U.S. Government is the leading contributor to global health, providing direct foreign assistance investments in more than 70 countries, and supporting other nations through contributions to mechanisms like the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; the World Health Organization; the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations; and the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. The United States invests in global health as an expression of American compassion, to strengthen fragile states by promoting social and economic progress, and to protect America's security.

Special Adviser Rahman's participation in this event underscores the State Department's commitment to connect directly with young people around the world in order to help address our most pressing foreign policy goals.

The Hangout will be broadcast live on the Department of State's YouTube channel and Google+ page.
