KLA-Tencor Corp.'s (>> KLA-Tencor Corporation) fiscal second-quarter earnings fell 3.8% as rising costs outpaced higher revenue at the semiconductor-equipment company.

An appeals court in California has tossed a portion of a nearly $310 million verdict against Mattel Inc. (>> Mattel, Inc.) in a long-running copyright-infringement lawsuit against Bratz doll maker MGA Entertainment Inc.

Sonic Corp. (>> Sonic Corporation) said its President Scott McLain will resign, effective March 31, and his title will be assumed by Chairman and Chief Executive Cliff Hudson.

Starbucks Corp.'s (>> Starbucks Corporation) profit jumped 13% in the latest quarter, propelled by higher sales in the U.S. and even China, where others have stumbled lately. Global same-store sales improved 6%, ahead of expectations of 5.4% growth from analysts polled by Thomson Reuters. Shares were up 2.6% to $56 after hours.

Moody's Investors Service has boosted the outlook for Valmont Industries Inc. (>> Valmont Industries, Inc.) to positive from stable, citing improved profitability over the past year and expectations of moderate global growth.

W.R. Grace & Co. (>> W.R. Grace & Co.) said it will record a smaller-than-expected $365 million pre-tax charge in the fourth quarter related to the specialty chemical company's increased asbestos-related liability.
