Tablet banking, insurance tools and car buying service
drive app growth.
It's no secret that mobile banking has become one of
the top reasons USAA members use the
USAA iPhone
®
and Android™ mobile apps. Since USAA first introduced
mobile banking in 2009, members have enjoyed the ability to
manage their money securely anytime, anywhere. The mobile
apps have been downloaded more than 4 million times through
June 2012 - more than double the number since June 2011.
And now 2012 may be the year of the tablet, as USAA app for
the iPad® boasts a nearly 300 percent increase in downloads
during the last 12 months since June 2011.
"Whether it's a military spouse in charge of the
household budget or a deployed member overseas wanting to
place a trade, USAA's self-service tools enable our
members to access and manage their finances anytime from
their mobile device," says Neff Hudson, USAA's
assistant vice president of emerging channels.
USAA has launched several new tools on its mobile apps this
year, including an improved brokerage experience. The USAA
Mobile App upgrade will make it easier than ever for USAA
members to keep tabs on their financial portfolios, deposit
checks directly into their mutual fund or brokerage
accounts, conduct research, place investment trades and
more.
Other new mobile features include getting insurance quotes
for life insurance, renters and valuable personal property
insurance. USAA is also piloting a mobile speech
recognition tool that allows members to give voice commands
to complete transactions on USAA's app for the iPhone.
The new functionality makes it possible for members to
interact with the app simply by speaking commands or asking
a question. "The mobile virtual assistant helps make
it simpler, faster and more satisfying for our members to
manage their financial affairs on their mobile device no
matter where they are," says Hudson.
