By Kingsley Omonobi, Abuja

Operatives of the Police Area Command, Mushin, in Lagos State, have launched a manhunt for six officers who provided back up for vandals who attempted to steal expensive NITEL cables worth several millions of naira at the Fatai Atere Street area of the state.

Area Commander Mushin, ACP Olasoji Olabayo, while confirming the manhunt on phone, disclosed that five of the suspected vandals have been arrested while perpetuating the criminal act adding that the six policemen involved in the commission of the crime escaped.

The suspects arrested are David Orako, Musa Ibrahim, Mohammed Rabiu, Sherif Usman and the driver, Musiliu Iyanda. A source had told Sunday Vanguard that, following actionable intelligence, men of the Area Command were swiftly mobilized to the scene of crime and they intercepted a heavy duty truck/crane on the Thursday, 11th January, 2018, at about 2.30am, while vandalizing NITEL cables.

The source said six policemen provided back up in the commission of the crime.

“Four suspects were arrested at the scene of the crime while the 6 policemen escaped.

“At about 6pm of the same date, the driver of the impounded truck, who abandoned the heavy duty vehicle and escaped with the policemen, was arrested”, the source concluded.

While noting that the manhunt for the 6 police accomplices will continue, the source said the case and those arrested will soon be transferred to Federal SARS.

Already, men of the FSARS have visited the scene of crime and removed the vandalized cables (Exhibits) while the truck is still at the Police Station.
