The Commerce Department reported a 5.7% rebound in US housing starts in April compared with the previous month, to an annualized rate of 1,360,000, following a 16.8% decline in March.

U.S. building permits - intended to be a precursor of future housing starts - fell by 3% to 1,440,000 last month. Finally, housing completions rose by 8.6% to 1,623,000.
