3M Drug Delivery Systems announced today that STADA Arzneimittel AG has become the latest drug company to license 3M's patented technology directed to a matrix patch for the transdermal delivery of the opioid pain medication fentanyl. Terms of the license agreement were not disclosed.
The 3M Patent (EP 2158905), which was granted on March 20, 2013, enables a transdermal drug delivery device designed to deliver a therapeutically effective amount of fentanyl across the skin of a patient. The matrix device is configured by incorporating fentanyl into an adhesive matrix made of a copolymer containing alkyl acrylate and other monomers.
3M is open to licensing this technology to other interested parties.
