Astana International Financial Center Enters a Strategic Partnership with 5EL SA to Develop and Operate a Blockchain Innovation Hub in Kazakhstan

October 31, 2017, Lausanne & Astana - Astana International Financial Center, the financial hub recently established by the Government of Kazakhstan to facilitate international flows of trade and finance including the quickly developing commerce across One Belt One Road Initiative, signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Swiss-listed 5EL SA, to lead on designing and implementing the blockchain innovation initiative code named "Bright Chain".

Bright Chain will aim to attract and support technology developers and companies seeking to develop and operate commercial applications of blockchain technology in the areas of finance, trade and logistics. Established on the principles of the Common Law, the Astana International Financial Center seeks to introduce from the outset the most innovative solutions to facilitate safe, cost efficient and scalable flows of goods, services and finance through its infrastructure, offering best-in-class high tech government services in areas like tax, customs, ownership deeds and trade finance.

"Astana International Financial Center aims to become the vital growth engine for the anticipated surge in trade & finance flows within One Belt One Road Initiative, and launching Bright Chain helps us to establish a long term competitive advantage as the hub for cost efficient and safe global trade," commented Mr. Nurlan Kussainov, the CEO of the Astana International Financial Center Authority (the "AIFC Authority").

5EL SA will set up a subsidiary of its 5EL Blockchain Lab unit in Astana to help the AIFC operate the most productive ecosystem for innovation and commercial applications of distributed ledger technologies to drive the growth and international competitiveness of both the AIFC and its resident operators.
