Abengoa SA : Abengoa awarded for its management in the development of biofuels

• This is the second time Abengoa is distinguished with the Sustainable Biofuels Award.
• Abengoa has been awarded for the RBSA Standard project.

Seville, March 28, 2012.- Abengoa (MCE: ABG), an international company that applies innovative technological solutions for sustainable development in the energy and environmental sectors, has been awarded for the second time with the Sustainable Biofuels Award , in the category of Sustainable Bioethanol, because of the development of the RED Bioenergy Sustainability Assurance (RBSA) Standard, that Abengoa has been performing since July, 2011.

Abengoa has been awarded for the RBSA Standard project, which falls within the Directive on Renewable Energies (DER) framework and was approved in July, 2011 by the European Commission. The RBSA is currently in force and certifies compliance with the regulations established for any raw material and production process, from the agricultural production phase to the biofuel sale, including its transformation.

The RBSA Standard, developed by Abengoa, establishes binding operational requirements for all the economic agents in play, applicable also to processes' management and maintenance, selecting the highest levels of quality in the processes of certification and independent audit of the information provided.

Besides, the system incorporates innovative technological solutions for the calculation of greenhouse gases and the development of sustainability maps, allowing for a simple and efficient implementation of all the necessary requirements throughout the supply chain.

Thanks to this standard, biofuels produced by Abengoa can be marketed around Europe with the "sustainable" certification, which is a unique distinctive, valid in and each and every country in the European Union.

The Sustainable Biofuels Awards have been created to acknowledge the tremendous innovative work that is being developed in the area of sustainability and renewable biofuels. The election is conducted by a panel of elite, independent experts belonging to the sector.

With this new award, Abengoa strengthens its commitment to sustainable development as a fundamental pillar of the company, trying to offer competitive and sustainable alternatives to the market.
