• Since January 2012, Abengoa's headquarters has avoided the emission to the atmosphere of 300 tons of CO2/year.
  • Energy efficiency, air conditioning and lighting measures have been implemented.

11 August, 2014 - Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), an international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors has developed a package of measures at its headquarters, located at Campus Palmas Altas, for energy savings in these facilities, as result of its commitment to sustainable development.

Among these measures, a series of actions have been carried out to optimize the thermal energy generation, reduce energy consumption and improve the existing lighting.

Energy efficiency measures and air conditioning

The first energy efficiency measures have focused on the thermal energy production system. A smart system that detects the needs for heating / cooling in buildings has been installed. It adapts the generation of thermal energy to the actual demand of the users according to their needs. Thus, the system automatically adapts itself to the heat/cool needs by areas, to prevent excess of air conditioning when not needed, thereby increasing the user comfort. This also allows every thermal kv generated not to be wasted.

The results have achieved savings of more than 1.5 million kWh / year, which translates into savings of almost 300 tons of CO2 a year. It represents about a 25% of the total consumption of Campus Palmas Altas.

Lighting

Moreover, Campus Palmas Altas has an efficient lighting system with low energy lighting and a control system that prevents unnecessary waste. In this sense, we have implemented energy efficiency measures aimed at optimization in outdoor areas by light sensors that allow the rationalization of consumption by area and time of the day.
