ABN AMRO is helping the Dutch Heart Foundation raise funds by means of the technologically powerful payment app Tikkie. During the campaign for women's hearts, anyone can donate to the charity using Tikkie. The campaign launches in mid-September. If this new method of fundraising turns out to be a success, ABN AMRO and the Heart Foundation will be looking into further cooperation in the build-up to the Foundation's collection week.

Donating with Tikkie is just as easy as requesting money back with the app. During the campaign for women's hearts, users will be able to make a one-time €5 donation through tikkie.me/vrouwenhart. Payment is then carried out via iDEAL, in the user's own familiar online banking environment.

Tikkie in tune with the times

Marianne Verhaar Strijbos, Charity Director at ABN AMRO MeesPierson: 'Despite the Dutch spirit of generosity, donations have been under pressure in recent years. Although the desire to donate persists in people, they experience a growing gap between their preferred donation methods and the options available to them. Tikkie bridges that gap. We are very pleased that with our app, we can provide a contribution to the Heart Foundation's important goals. And naturally, from here on, we can apply our new knowledge when working with other charities too.'

Floris Italianer, Director of the Dutch Heart Foundation, about the campaign and cooperation: 'We cannot emphasise this enough: health care for cardiovascular patients is not yet sufficiently geared towards helping female patients. The Heart Foundation is working on a reliable test which doctors can use to detect heart issues in women at a much earlier stage. We can save women's lives with this. Having Tikkie available to supporters during our campaign will help us get our message across in an effective and innovative manner. We are very excited about the opportunities Tikkie brings.'

Over 1 million users

Tikkie users can easily request their money back over WhatsApp, text messaging or Facebook Messenger. Although the app has been developed by ABN AMRO, clients of all Dutch banks can use it, free of charge. Tikkie already has over 1 million users, who weekly send over 150,000 payment requests.
