Naylor Drainage in Barnsley has acquired the European distribution rights for Smart Sponge, a technology which helps remove hydrocarbons, contaminants, and debris that is commonly found in storm water.
The product is manufactured by Abtech Industries, a US company based in Arizona.
AbTech's Smart Sponge technology absorbs hydrocarbons on contact, transforming liquid hydrocarbon pollution into a solid, manageable waste which can be used as a waste to fuel energy.
An additional material, Smart Sponge Plus can reduce bacteria levels in storm water, removing pollutants such as e-coli.
Naylor Drainage is a fourth generation family business which manufactures clay and plastic pipes.
Barry Marshall, formerly of Burden and Source Control Systems, has joined Naylor as product manager for Smart Sponge which is a cornerstone of the recently formed Naylor Environmental division.
