Wire and Wireless Co., Ltd. (Wi2) and Accenture (NYSE:ACN) have launched an analytics services platform for consumer companies in Japan that delivers context-based customer insights and supports in the creation of new, personalized services. The platform will allow businesses across a range of consumer-facing industries to identify relevant target groups, better understand where and how these customers purchase products and services, and engage them on their mobile devices with tailored offerings and promotions.

The new platform enables companies to develop personalized offerings such as product recommendations and coupons based on consumers' whereabouts and preferences, and directly push these to customers' smartphones and tablets. Through the platform, consumer companies will have access to detailed analytics-based outcome reports, for example mapping attributes of their customers who have entered a certain store after having received a product recommendation. This will help consumer-facing businesses better plan and execute future offerings and campaigns. To further personalize their services, companies can connect insights from the platform with information in their own databases, such as purchasing histories, and user click-through data collected from their websites.

"Our new platform provides powerful analytics capabilities which allow consumer companies to engage with their customers in a much more personalized way," said Takuya Kudo who leads Accenture Analytics in Japan. "It is a significant achievement in Wi2's journey to capitalize on data and analytics, which create value for consumers and ultimately helps our joint clients drive their businesses."

The platform combines anonymized, real-time geolocation data from Wi2's Wi-Fi access points with an advanced big data analytics infrastructure, provided by Accenture Analytics and incorporating Hadoop® technology, a service that allows processing of large data sets and provision of data-based insights in real time. Where proper customer consent has been given, the platform also leverages anonymized consumers' characteristics.

Businesses can use the new platform and the insights it provides in a variety of ways. For example:

  • Companies can set up delivery services which push special offers for products, recommendations, coupons or reward points to customers at appropriate times, according to their interests and preferences.
  • The platform allows companies to identify and address high-potential customers based on how frequently they have visited stores and what they have purchased.
  • Customers can be presented with offerings on their mobile devices upon visiting a store. These offerings can take into account when and how often a customer has received coupons, how he or she has used reward points, and how often and for how long the customer has visited a store before.
  • The platform enables businesses to plan placements of outdoor advertisements according to customer behavior at different times of day, in different store catchment areas, and according to customer attributes.
