Paris is hosting the 21st United Nations Conference on Climate Change from 30 November to 11 December. AccorHotels, an official partner of the event, is reasserting its commitment to combatting global warming with various unprecedented actions.

Offsetting CO² emissions

During COP21, AccorHotels will offset the carbon emissions resulting from each night spent at all the group's hotels in Île-de-France, as well as those of its competitors, by planting trees in Peru with our partner, Pur Projet.

Two million overnight stays during COP21 will result in 9,000 tonnes of CO² that will be offset by planting 27,000 trees in Peru.

As the host country, France, especially the Île-de-France region, will welcome thousands of participants from around the world for two weeks. AccorHotels is giving 200 young people from the Seine Saint-Denis department English lessons and training in the hospitality professions.

But that's not all! AccorHotels is a partner of 1Heart 1Tree, a monumental, civic-minded artwork initiated by Naziha Mestaoui creating a forest of light on Paris landmarks during the conference. She is asking spectators to create a virtual tree by using a heartbeat sensor. Then, for every tree of light, an actual tree will be planted in a reforestation project somewhere in the world. AccorHotels is offering 3,500 trees to guests, employees - including the winners of the contest on Accorlive - partners, etc., who will be able to see their trees and names projected on the Eiffel Tower on 3 December from 7 to 8 p.m.

Plant a tree wherever you may be!

Can't make it to Paris? The Eiffel Tower will be filmed so that you can watch the event on your smartphone anywhere in the world.

COP21 also gives AccorHotels a chance to reassert its commitment to combatting climate change with Plant for the Planet.

Since 2009, thanks to the involvement of employees and guests, 4.5 million trees have been planted in over 150 reforestation projects near the hotels.

For every night booked at a hotel in Paris or the Ile-de-France region during COP21, a tree will be planted as part of a reforestation programme in Indonesia. In all, 395 hotels in Paris and Ile-de-France are participating in the campaign.

For more sustainable accommodation in Paris

In 2012, the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau drew up the Charter for Sustainable Accommodation in Paris to meet the expectations of visitors wishing to travel 'responsibly'. AccorHotels decided to fully commit its Ile-de-France hotels. On 27 October, over 300 of them signed the charter, with AccorHotels Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sven Boinet, COP21 organisers and representatives from the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau in attendance.

A major COP21 communication campaign is also underway in the hotels and on the social networks. Some 2,000 bloggers and influential people who care about environmental issues are being urged to share AccorHotels' commitment on their networks. There's also a dedicated hashtag: #FeelWelcomeOnEarth.
