$2.7 MILLION WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT BEGINS ALONG SULLIVAN TRAIL IN PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP SCRANTON, PA. (August 24, 2015) - Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of a water main replacement project in Plainfield Township to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions and increase water flows for firefighting. The cost of the system improvements, which includes installing approximately 10,000 feet of pipe, is approximately $2.7 million.

The project, which begins this week, includes replacing existing eight -inch water main dating back to the
1920s with new 16-inch ductile iron pipe along Sullivan Trail, beginning just north of Sexton Road to
Filetown Road.
"We proactively invest in our local water infrastructure to ensure that we continue to provide reliable water service to our customers," said Don Kessler, manager of field services, Pennsylvania American Water. "Projects are prioritized based on a number of factors, including the need for larger mains to handle system demands, age, fire protection and, in this instance, a history of main breaks or service interruptions."
The company expects to complete the water main installation, including transfer of all customer services and final paving restoration, by spring 2016.
During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. For more information, contact Pennsylvania American Water's customer service center at 1-800-565-7292.
