PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN WATER REHABILITATING JEFFERSON COUNTY WATER STORAGE TANK

MCMURRAY, Pa. (September 22, 2016) - Pennsylvania American Water today announced plans to rehabilitate a 200,000-gallon tank in McCalmont Township, Jefferson County. The approximately

$320,000 rehabilitation project will include inspecting, sandblasting and repainting the tank, which will extend service life, protect water quality and provide continued fire protection for the community.

"Storage tanks are essential to our community water systems by helping ensure reliable water service is always available to meet customer demand and provide fire protection," said Dave Drozd, senior supervisor of operations for Pennsylvania American Water. "Rehabilitation projects are a prudent, proactive investment to extend the tanks' lifespan, which is more cost-efficient than replacing the structures."

The McCalmont Tank was last painted in 1989. This approximately 75-day project will include striping the original paint and applying a new coating, which serves as a protective barrier that prevents the steel from rusting and compromising water quality. During construction, the company does not expect customers to experience service interruptions.
