(May 22, 2017) - Pennsylvania American Water announced today plans to launch a pilot program to provide its' qualified City of Pittsburgh customers with the opportunity to have their drinking water tested for lead. The free program is scheduled to begin June 5, 2017.

"Pennsylvania American Water has employed proven corrosion control treatment methods for the more than 30 years in our Greater Pittsburgh service areas, and during that time period our finished, and sampled water, has always been in compliance with regulatory standards," said Pennsylvania American Water President Jeffrey McIntyre. "This pilot program is about providing our Pittsburgh customers with continued confidence and peace of mind about the water we provide them every day."

The company will coordinate the distribution and pickup of lead sampling kits at qualified households. Test results will be provided to customers within four weeks after water samples are collected. The samples will be analyzed by American Water's Central Laboratory, which is accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and US Environmental Protection Agency.
