SUWANEE, Ga., May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Caribbean and Latin American service providers will soon have access to a new set-top designed to specifically meet growing consumer demand for high-definition programming and high-bandwidth advanced applications within this region.  The ARRIS Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) DCX525e will bring a variety of two-way communication capabilities into the home environment providing a flexible and future oriented entertainment platform.

The ARRIS DCX525e is twice as fast as earlier models in its class, contains five times more memory and features embedded security. In addition to immediately providing high-definition video, digital sound and on-demand and interactive services, the software-programmable DCX525e has the capability to be converted to an IP set-top in the future.

The DCX525e employs an advanced design that packs significant upgrades into an even more compact housing; measuring just 5.5 in W x 3.6 in D x 1.4 in H.

"In developing the DXC525e we incorporated key technologies from many years of set-top design experience," said Larry Robinson, President, Customer Premises Equipment, ARRIS. "We're already seeing strong interest from large service providers in Caribbean and Latin American markets. These operators are working to meet subscribers' demands for the entertainment delivery capabilities that consumers all over the world want. We're committed to helping these service providers meet this growing demand."

Through support of MPEG-4 decode technologies, the ARRIS DCX525e allows operators to efficiently and cost-effectively utilize limited bandwidth to deliver HD programming and high-bandwidth applications. The DCX525e is capable of decoding MPEG-4 video streams, requiring significantly less bandwidth than MPEG-2 to deliver comparable quality video services. It also supports Switched Digital Video (SDV) solutions, allowing service providers to maximize the use of their available bandwidth by delivering programming only to nodes where and when subscribers actively request that particular program.

The ARRIS DCX525e also utilizes a client compatible with both the ARRIS SmartStream Terminal Data Collector (STDC) and the ARRIS ServAssure ALOHA Collector for remotely gathering important set-top status and health information in a centralized server for evaluation and corrective action. STDC provides operators with the ability to isolate and troubleshoot plant issues, improve service quality, and reduce operational costs.
