Mondo Power was awarded with Energy Networks Australia's 2017 Consumer Engagement Award for its community mini grid in Victoria's north east, last night.

Located in Yackandandah, the mini grid project was recognised for its unique partnership with local volunteer group, Totally Renewable Yackandandah (TRY) and the north east's electricity supplier, AusNet Services.

The partnership, started in 2016, has led to the successful community energy project that now involves almost 200 homes and combines rooftop solar systems, battery storage and the new Mondo Ubi - the smart energy monitoring and management system making the mini grid possible.

The initiative was commended for its early and authentic customer engagement approach. Mondo Power's Mark Judd, Manager of Energy Solutions, accepted the award on behalf of the project. 'We made a deliberate effort to engage community leadership early for their input and are 100% committed to continuous education and collaboration throughout the project's life.' Judd said.

One of the partnership's features that stood out for the judges was its ability to help improve reliability and affordability for Yackandandah's energy future.

Following the announcement of the award, AusNet Services' Executive General Manager - Commercial Energy Services, Chad Hymas, congratulated the partners, saying 'Technology and renewables are moving at a fast pace in Australia's energy sector and we are excited about the opportunities to help customers take more control over their energy future.'

The partnership between Mondo Power, AusNet Services and Totally Renewable Yackandandah has demonstrated the growing culture of consumer engagement within energy networks. It is also a leading example of what can be achieved through collaborative engagement.
