United Kingdom, 25 May 2016-. The University of Leicester has extended its successful partnership with Santander Universities UK to support postgraduate scholarships, enterprise bursaries, summer schools and travel awards.

The University of Leicester is to receive more funding from Santander Universities UK, bringing the value of this three-year partnership to over £300,000.

This philanthropic support will directly benefit over 400 students through post-graduate scholarships, travel awards, summer schools for pupils from local schools, and an annual creative writing lecture.

Lisa Davies, Senior Development Manager at the University of Leicester, said 'Our partnership with Santander Universities UK opens up transformative opportunities for students that they would otherwise not have - enabling them to pursue post-graduate degrees, make international study trips, or get 'hands-on' experience in industry.'

This funding now includes ten £1000 Enterprise Awards for student start-up initiatives. Rajinder Bhuhi, Extra-Curriculum Employability Manager Career Development Service, said 'The University of Leicester has been a partner with Santander since the inception of their Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards. We are delighted to receive further support from Santander Universities for our student and graduate business start-ups helping them to develop innovative and creative new business ideas. It's so important to support and encourage entrepreneurship, especially amongst the inventors of the future. Student entrepreneurs are key to the growth and prosperity of our economy and this investment is essential as many of them will innovate, create and lead our future.'

Robin Foale, Managing Director, Santander Universities UK, said: 'Our partnership with the University of Leicester has exceeded all the expectations that we had when we originally signed our first agreement six years ago. The focus of our funding has evolved over the years to ensure that we support the university community right where it is most needed. Entrepreneurship and internationalisation are both high on Leicester's agenda and we are delighted to be able to assist the University in these key areas.'

Caroline Berry, Head of International Market Development at the University's International Office, said: 'We are very grateful to Santander Universities for their funding. The scholarships make a real difference, helping us to welcome talented postgraduate students from Latin America, Spain and Portugal to study here at the University of Leicester.

'We already have a diverse international student population at Leicester, but being able to attract more students from Latin America, Spain and Portugal greatly enhances the student experience here as well as our profile overseas'.
