Press release New Chairman of the Board of Directors BCGE - Gilbert Probst appointed by the State Council to the Chair of the Board of Directors Geneva, 1stMarch 2017 - Gilbert Probst has today been appointed by the State Council to succeed Jean-Pierre Roth as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BCGE. He will assume his duties on Tuesday 25 April 2017, after the Bank's ordinary General Meeting.

In accordance with article 12 of the Banque Cantonale de Genève (BCGE) Act, the State Council has appointed Mr Gilbert Probst as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors; he will succeed Mr Jean-Pierre Roth who has chaired the Bank since 1stJuly 2010.

This appointment has today been communicated by the State Chancellery. The new Chairman of the Board of Directors will take office on 25 April, after the Bank's ordinary General Meeting.

Professor and business leader from the academic world

Gilbert Probst, born on 17 September 1950, was Full Professor of Management and Organization at the University of Geneva from 1987 to 2015. Since then, he has held the roles of Honorary Professor, Director of the Public-Private Partnership Centre and Co-director of the MBA programme at the Geneva School of Economics and Management (GSEM). Gilbert Probst is Co- founder and Vice-chairman of the Swiss Board Institute foundation (Geneva), Vice-chairman of the Swiss Institute of Directors for Switzerland (St. Gallen).

From 2007 to 2016, Gilbert Probst was Managing Director at the World Economic Forum (WEF), Dean of the Global Leadership Fellows Programme and responsible for the Open Forum Davos.

Previously, Gilbert Probst was Vice-director and Adj. Professor at the Institute of Sciences and Management (IfB) of the University of St. Gallen (1983-1987) and taught at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and at the International Management Institute (IMI) in Geneva. He is the founder of the Public-Private Partnership Centre (University of Geneva), of the Centre for Organizational Excellence (University of St. Gallen) and of the Geneva Knowledge Forum.

Extensive private sector experience

Gilbert Probst has extensive experience in the private sector. He has been a member of the boards of directors of EPA/UNIP, Kuoni, Holcim, Schlaepfer embroideries, Alu Menziken and Acqiris. He currently holds no private sector office.
