Barnes Group Inc. (NYSE: B), an international industrial and aerospace manufacturer and service provider, today announced the pending retirement of Thomas O. Barnes as an employee of the 157 year-old company. Mr. Barnes’ official retirement date is December 31, 2014. After his retirement, and at the request of the Board of Directors of the Company, Mr. Barnes will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Company’s charitable foundation.

Mr. Thomas Barnes represents the fifth generation of Barnes family members to have been actively employed by the Company. Mr. Barnes’ great, great grandfather, Mr. Wallace Barnes, founded the Company in Bristol, CT in 1857, and his father, Mr. Wallace (Wally) Barnes, served as the Company’s President and COO from 1964 to 1977, its Chairman of the Board and CEO from 1977 to 1991, and its Chairman of the Board from 1991 to 1995.

Mr. Thomas Barnes started his career with Barnes Group in 1973 as an Industrial Product Planner for Bowman, a distribution business of Barnes Group, and subsequently held increasing roles of responsibility with Bowman, including Market Research Analyst, and Manager of Market Research, before leaving the Company in 1976 to pursue other business opportunities. Mr. Barnes returned to Barnes Group in 1993 in the role of Senior Vice President, Administration, and was first appointed to the executive Chairman of the Board position in 1995.

As part of his duties as non-executive Chairman of the Board, Mr. Barnes will also continue to serve as Chairman of the Barnes Group Foundation – the philanthropic arm of Barnes Group – and actively assist Barnes Group with maintaining a key role in community affairs in the Bristol and Hartford, CT areas.
