Berkeley : wins RoSPA's Sir George Earle trophy for health and safety excellence

Berkeley has received the top prize from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents for its approach towards health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
Berkeley collected the prestigious Sir George Earle Trophy at an awards ceremony held in the London ExCel exhibition centre on the 20th June.

This is the first time the award has been won by a housebuilder.

The judging panel applauded a tangible feeling of personal responsibility and drive from directors in Berkeley to improve health and safety and was also commended for its readiness to help staff in its supply chain improve their performance.

The RoSPA judging panel's comments read: 'Health and safety at Berkeley is communicated with genuine passion - at both board and site level, showing it to be integral to the business culture. Competency assurance throughout the supply chain is an equally impressive feature, as is the willingness to assist partners in improving their understanding of health and safety measures.'

The company was also praised for its commitment to staff wellbeing, innovation and involvement with the local community and was described by the judges as a business setting an example for the way health and safety responsibilities should be managed.

Berkeley Group's 12 month rolling Accident Incident Rate is currently 1.68, the lowest ever recorded in our history and one of the best in the industry.
