At Best Buy, we are continuously looking for opportunities to reduce energy usage and carbon emissions, not just in our stores and distribution centers, but at our corporate office too. As proof of that, for the 11 year, we are proud to announce that the Best Buy corporate office has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) ENERGY STAR certification.
Commercial buildings that earn EPA's ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. We improved the energy performance of our headquarters by managing energy strategically and by making cost-effective improvements to the buildings.
It's easy to see that reducing our energy usage is not only the right thing to do for the environment, it also makes good business sense.
In addition to our ENERGY STAR for Buildings certification, here are a few other fun 'green' facts about our campus:
Employees can charge their electric vehicles at new charging stations in our employee parking ramp
Large windows and skylights let in natural light, reducing the need for lighting
The cafeteria has real trees - indoors!
Our catering partner, Bon Appetit, offers locally sourced food and brings a local farmers market to campus every week in the summer
In addition to recycling, there are nearly 200 places to compost on our campus, minimizing our waste sent to landfill
We look forward to finding more ways to make our campus even more sustainable.
