AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BorgWarner (NYSE: BWA) plans to invest $9.4 million in its plant in Dixon, Illinois, over the next three years. The expanded production capacity will allow BorgWarner to optimally supply several customers with environmentally friendly technologies, including exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolers, tubes and thermostats--key technologies that help reduce emissions and improve fuel economy for passenger cars and on- and off-road commercial diesel vehicles. BorgWarner expects to create 40 new jobs, including opportunities in the areas of manufacturing and product engineering, supplier quality, supply chain, and technical and quality support.

"We are pleased to support the local economy with expanded operations in Dixon and appreciate the encouragement we have received from both the city of Dixon and the state of Illinois," said Paddy Lange, Plant Manager Dixon, BorgWarner Emissions Systems. "Dixon's infrastructure gives us the ability to meet growing customer demand in North America, which is likely to increase within the next few years."

BorgWarner's Dixon plant celebrated its 50(th) anniversary in July 2013. In the past five decades, BorgWarner has continuously increased manufacturing capacity to meet market demands, achieving a market-leading position for several EGR products for both passenger cars and commercial diesel vehicles. With a total area of 135,000 square feet and a current workforce of 210, the Dixon plant is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration Voluntary Protection Program (OSHA VPP) site and is certified in ISO TS 16949 quality standards. In addition, the plant received a BorgWarner Global Safety Award in 2013 for achieving a minimum number of work-related injuries or illnesses over a five-year period.
