Residents and associates at nine Brookdale Senior Living communities located throughout the country were honored with awards at the company's inaugural 'Celebrate Aging Film Festival.' Held October 4th at the historic Franklin Theatre in Franklin, Tennessee, the event was established to help change the perception of aging and to communicate a positive, uplifting or touching message about aging. Movie shorts were created by residents and associates at Brookdale communities and narrowed down to nine finalists.

The film festival offered the opportunity for residents and associates to work together on a creative project using their senior living community's iPad technology. The groups handled all aspects of production including: conception, scriptwriting, casting, acting, directing, filming and editing. Brookdale communities nationwide had until July 31 to submit their film. Awards were presented in the following categories: Best Picture, Best Writing, Best Acting, Best Technical Design and the Courage Award, all chosen by judges. The films were also eligible for the Ecolab People's Choice Award, with the winner chosen by public voting. Votes for the Ecolab People's Choice Award totaled over 12,700 with the winning film accumulating approximately 3,270 votes.
