BT's online fundraising service MyDonate signs major partnership with Nova International, organiser of the Bupa Great North Run
MyDonate, the free online charitable fundraising service from BT, has signed a major partnership deal with Nova International, organiser of some of the UK's leading televised mass-participation sporting events, including the world's biggest half- marathon, the Bupa Great North Run.
MyDonate (www.bt.com/mydonate) will be the official Online Fundraising Partner for the Bupa Great Run Series and the British Gas Great Swim Series, providing charitable fundraising support at more than a dozen events across the UK in 2012.
More than 450 charities and over 200,000 participants in next year's events - which span from Edinburgh down to Portsmouth, via Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle - will be able to benefit from the MyDonate online giving platform, which guarantees that 100 per cent of all monies donated go direct to the charity, except for charges levied by the donor's own credit or debit card company.
The partnership deal will also be a major boost for MyDonate - which launched in April 2011- raising awareness of the online giving service and how charities can raise even more money, as they do not have to pay administration charges or set-up fees, as they would with other online fundraising companies. Since its launch almost 2,000 UK-registered charities have signed up to MyDonate and, so far this year, nearly £30 million has been raised for good causes across the MyDonate family of online fundraising services.
The Bupa Great Run Series - which has more than 160,000 participants each year and millions more television viewers - features eight mass-participation events. Seven of these are supported by the Bupa Mini and Junior Great Run events for 3 to 15 year olds, involving thousands more children and young people. The British Gas Great Swim Series currently operates in five regions across the UK - Cumbria, Glasgow, East Anglia, London and Greater Manchester engaging more than 20,000 participants.

MyDonate was launched to help grow the UK online fundraising market. BT is running the MyDonate service completely for free and, unlike some other services operating in the UK, doesn't charge charities or donors a subscription fee, a set-up fee or take a commission. Charities can also receive Gift Aid from UK tax payers who donate using the site.
Last year the total amount donated to charity by adults in the UK was estimated to be £10.6 billion, but only seven per cent of charitable givers donated online . A recent MyDonate survey also showed that nearly 60 per cent of people want their entire online donation to go direct to charity and that two of the top reasons people donated to a particular charity were influenced by how much money actually went to good causes and what their money was spent on.
