Marlins Park is poised to host the upcoming Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 in Miami, Florida. Not only will it be the first time that this annual professional baseball game is held in Miami, it also marks the first time that it will take place in the Sunshine State!

Canam designed and fabricated the ballpark's retractable roof and opening mechanism, which is composed of 7,700 tons of steel and designed to open or close in just 14 minutes. The roof is composed of three main sections, with the mid-section sitting over the other two. When open, the two lower sections sit beneath the mid-section, and the entire roof structure rests outside the ballpark on rails perched 130 ft. (39.6 m) above the ground.

Another interesting challenge was the design of the mid-section trusses, which are 560 ft. (171 m) long and 46 ft. (14 m) deep. Given their length, these trusses are subjected to a vertical deflection of up to 18 in. (46 cm). The trusses located on the east and west sides of the ballpark are 541 ft. (165 m) long and 44 ft. (13.4 m) deep.

The execution of this project involved many colossal challenges, and the Canam team is very proud to have designed and fabricated the crowning feature of this world-class, 37,000-seat ballpark.
