Carillion recognised as a global leader in carbon performance
Carillion has been recognised as one of the world's best performing companies in terms of carbon performance, according to the CDP Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index 2014 released today.
28th January 2015

For its actions to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the risks of climate change which included reducing employee business travel and energy consumption within its offices, Carillion was named as one of only 121 companies - within the top four per cent globally - which has been awarded a climate performance A-grade in this renowned global ranking. The Index is included within a new CDP report reviewing the environmental sustainability of global supply chains, which analysed data from more than 3,300 companies worldwide.

CDP is an international non-governmental organisation that drives sustainable economies, at the request of 66 multinational purchasers who work with CDP to better understand and manage the environmental impacts of their supply chains. Since its founding, CDP has become widely recognised as the leading international benchmark for corporate environmental performance and responsibility.

David Picton, Carillion's Chief Sustainability Officer, said: "Carillion's inclusion in the CDP Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index 2014, alongside our ranking in the global Climate Performance and Disclosure Leadership Indices, demonstrates that we are serious about making tomorrow a better place for us and our clients. Doing so is not merely a 'nice to have', but is absolutely business critical and essential for creating a truly sustainable business. We are pleased to be recognised for our efforts and leadership in this area."

Paul Simpson, chief executive officer of CDP, added: "Greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise globally and we face steep economic risk if we do not mitigate them.  The business case for action to mitigate climate change impacts in the supply chain has never been stronger or more urgent.  For this reason we congratulate those suppliers who have achieved a position on CDP's Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index. These companies are responding to the growing demand for environmental accountability while at the same time making progress towards the realization of sustainable economies."
