New Employee Health Center Provides Opportunity to Improve Health and Wellness

The Unified Government (UG) today announced plans to open an on-site employee health center and launch wellness programs. Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, and The University of Kansas (KU) Hospital have come together with UG to establish a 5,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art health center to offer more affordable and convenient access to medical care for employees.

Scheduled to open in the summer of 2016, the center will provide a person-centered experience for UG employees. It will feature comfortable care suites to provide privacy for patients and will be equipped with Cerner's leading health technology. Patients will be able to schedule appointments and interact with their providers using a secure, online portal.

'This service will provide an opportunity for our employees to become better consumers of our health plan and make better decisions when it comes to their own health needs,' said Renee Ramirez, director of Human Resources, UG.

The health center will serve as a true health home for employees. Cerner will offer an array of health and care services that are part of UG's new 'Road to Wellness' employee wellness program. Cerner's management of the health center will include primary care, health education through coaching, and prevention and wellness screening services centered on the preferences and risks of each plan member. The Road to Wellness program officially launched today with the availability of wellness screenings and health coaching for UG employees.

'Cerner is pleased to support UG in its pursuit of providing an outstanding experience, personalized programs and improved health for its employees and families,' said Amanda Adkins, vice president of Population Health, Cerner. KU Hospital, a leading health provider of comprehensive services for work related injuries, will provide physician oversite for all occupational medicine programs and services.

'The employee health center is the beginning of a long-term strategy to improve the overall health of our employees and lower health care costs,' said Doug Bach, county administrator, UG. 'We are excited to begin our work with Cerner and the University of Kansas Hospital to leverage their collective expertise for our employees.'

The health center will be located in the former National Soccer Coaches Association of America building located at 800 Ann Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.

Access to the health center will be expanded to employees' family members in the summer of 2017.
