Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network (GSRN) has selected Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, to implement an integrated electronic health record (EHR) system and end-to-end revenue cycle management solutions at three inpatient and more than 40 outpatient facilities throughout eight eastern Pennsylvania counties.

'As health care reform changes the way care is delivered and paid for, we chose to align with an IT supplier that can support our unique needs as a focused post-acute provider,' said John Kristel, president and CEO, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network. 'Cerner provides specialized workflows beyond the traditional hospital setting that will give our physicians, nurses, therapists and other highly specialized clinicians a more comprehensive view of their patients' records so they can continue to focus on providing individualized care to those with complex medical needs.'

GSRN will replace its existing patient management system and several niche third-party clinical systems with Cerner Millennium clinical and financial solutions, including Cerner's rehabilitation-specific solutions, to enable its care teams to optimize coordination and improve efficiency in the post-acute care of their patients.

'When evaluating potential IT suppliers, it was critical to find one that had both a fully developed enterprise-wide EHR, as well as the solutions necessary to meet our specialized needs for enhanced rehabilitation and post-acute functionality,' said Mike Cirba, CIO, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network. 'Cerner has the experience and post-acute focus necessary to meet our current and anticipated needs as Good Shepherd continues to grow and evolve.'

An integrated platform will enable providers to improve communication and collaboration across the organization and connect to GSRN's diverse portfolio of partner organizations, as well as other health care organizations in the community.

The future of health care will revolve around connecting a patient's journey from all venues of care,' said Zane Burke, president, Cerner. 'Cerner continues to expand its footprint in the rehabilitation space and is committed to supporting care coordination across the entire continuum, not just in acute and ambulatory environments, to help transform health care delivery.'
