Two southeast Missouri health care organizations, SoutheastHEALTH and Missouri Delta Medical Center, have selected Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, to implement its electronic health record (EHR) system.

SoutheastHEALTH will transition to the Cerner Millennium EHR, an information technology (IT) platform that provides physicians with an integrated digital record of a patient's health history, including clinical and financial data. Through the new online patient portal, patients will be able to securely message physicians, schedule appointments and easily access their health history.

'SoutheastHEALTH prides itself on being a high-tech, high-touch hospital focused on making a positive impact through our commitment to excellence in health care. To achieve this, we need excellent resources,' said Ken Bateman, president and CEO of SoutheastHEALTH. 'Cerner's EHR will aid in fulfilling our mission of providing care to those we are privileged to serve now and in the future.'

Missouri Delta Medical Center will also transition to Millennium and leverage the Cerner CommunityWorks deployment and support model, a prescriptive and remote-hosted IT platform tailored to support community health care organizations that provide care to rural communities. More than half of Cerner clients that are live with the CommunityWorks model have achieved Stage 6 of the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model, the health IT industry's method to recognize significant levels of EHR adoption and success.

'As a rural community hospital, we have been recognized with top performing patient satisfaction scores and clinical process of care measures,' said Jason Schrumpf, president and CEO of Missouri Delta Medical Center. 'Aligning with Cerner will provide us with the resources and tools necessary to deliver the highest quality health care and help us deliver the best experience possible for our patients.'

Each organization will benefit from advanced interoperability capabilities, which will enable the transfer of patient data between the organizations and among health systems across the country. Interoperability functionality provides physicians with a comprehensive view of a patient's full health history, regardless of where care is delivered, which helps physicians make more informed care decisions.

'We are extremely proud to welcome these two Missouri organizations to the Cerner family. The communities that SoutheastHEALTH and Missouri Delta Medical Center serve will experience the benefits that result from an integrated EHR solution,' said Dick Flanigan, president of Cerner HS. 'We look forward to supporting the needs of these organizations today and helping prepare them for the future.'
