Charoen Pokphand Foods (Plc) or CPF supports broiler farmers under its contract farming to comply with Good Labor Practices (GLP) to meet with international standard requirement.

A total number of 1,296 broiler farms under the company's contract farming will received GLP certificate from Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Labour Ministry on March 15, 2017.

Mr.Parisothat Punnabhum, Senior Executive Vice President - Human Resources of CPF, said the company has strong intention to strengthen the Kingdom's export competitiveness. As part of the plan, the company has enhanced those contracted farmers to apply GLP in farms.

Since last year, the company had jointed hand with the department to managed training GLP practices to farmers. In addition, they also sent expert teams to closely advice farmers to ensure that they walk on the right way. It aims to upgrade quality of life covering 5,000 people both local labour and foreign labour. Of the total, foreign labour accounting for 350 people.

'The good labour practices in farm draws to upgrade quality of life in line with human rights requirement. Farmers will learn to improve their employment, working place to meet with the international regulations,' said Mr. Parisothat.

Mr. Parisothat pointed that farmers with GLP practices will facilitate them to get Good Agriculture Practices (GAP), under which has strong restrictions against slaved labour, illegal labour and child labour.

This year, CPF also sets up a working taskforce to audit those certified farms particularly the way they take care labours to ensure GAP standard by the Livestock Development Department.

The company wants to ensure its clients' confident on GLP and GAP throughout the broiler supply chain. It will step forward to encourage farmer to apply more Thai Labour Standard : TLS 8001-2010). So far, all CPF's processing plants have been certified TLS already. This will ensure not only food safety but also fair labour treatment.
