Smart Customers Save Two Million kWh Electricity in
Energy Saving Competition
CLP Power Hong Kong (CLP Power) today launches its 2014 "Save Now for a Better Future" energy saving competition and holds an award ceremony for the winners of the 2013 contest. The event highlights CLP Power's continuing determination to raise public awareness on environmental protection by encouraging customers to change their power consumption habit and be energy efficient.
Some 50,000 customers took part in the 2013 competition, reducing their energy consumption by a total of two million kWh over a two-month period, comparing to the same period a year earlier. This is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of around 500 households.
One thousand entrants with the most savings percentage won the Top Energy Saving Household awards, out of which six awardess were given the Super Best Saving Idea Household awards, in appreciation of their innovative and strategic saving ideas. In the housing estate category, Kwong Ming Court in Sai Kung won the Super Energy Saving Housing Estate award, beating entrants from 14 districts. Whilst District Councillor Dennis Leung Tsz-wing from Kwai Tsing collected the Super Energy Saving Community award in the community category. (Please refer to Appendix 1 for full details.)
CLP Power Managing Director Paul Poon said: "It is wonderful to have so much public support for this energy saving competition. The response to last year's challenge was very encouraging. Speaking to the 2013 winners, it is clear that energy saving awareness has been greatly improved in the community. Many of the participants brainstormed energy saving ideas with their family
members. I hope even more people will join the competition this year."

Dr. Man Chi-sum, Chief Executive Officer of Green Power and chairman of the 2013 competition judging panel, said: "This competition is a meaningful and valuable activity, encouraging citizens, estates and communities to join together to adopt energy efficient behavious and habits, and creating community-wide cooperation to save energy. I would appeal to everyone to get their families involved in this year's competition."
The 2014 competition runs from 1 August to 30 September. The 500 households achieving the highest percentage in energy savings compared to same period last year, will win Smart Energy Saving Household awards and receive an one-off electricity rebate of HK$1 per kWh saved, up to a maximum of HK$500 per account. The judging panel will select another six winners who achieve to have the most savings and smart saving ideas, to be rewarded with gift coupons for energy efficient home appliances.
To take part in the challenge, customers can simply log on to the CLP website at www.clponline.com.hk/eo. Details are in Appendix 2. Members of the public are also encouraged to submit and share their innovative energy saving tips with the "Energy Smart Ideas"

CLP "Save Now fo r a Better Future" Energy Savi ng Co mpeti tio n 2 014 - Rules and Awards (1) Introduction:CLP organised the "Save Now for a Better Future" energy saving competition, to enhance peoples' awareness on energy saving and to encourage the community to adopt energy efficient habits at home, aiming to help make Hong Kong a greener and more sustainable city. This also serves as a platform for sharing innovative saving tips among residential customers.
(2) Target:
All residential customers with a valid CLP electricity account (from 1 August 2013 to 30
September 2014).
Group 1: Households with electricity consumption less than or equal to 350 units per month
Group 2: Households with electricity consumption more than 350 units per month
(4) Energy Saving Period:1 August to 30 September 2014
