Smart Customers Save Two Million kWh Electricity in

Energy Saving Competition

CLP Power Hong Kong (CLP Power) today launches its 2014 "Save Now for a Better Future" energy saving competition and holds an award ceremony for the winners of the 2013 contest. The event highlights CLP Power's continuing determination to raise public awareness on environmental protection by encouraging customers to change their power consumption habit and be energy efficient.
Some 50,000 customers took part in the 2013 competition, reducing their energy consumption by a total of two million kWh over a two-month period, comparing to the same period a year earlier. This is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of around 500 households.
One thousand entrants with the most savings percentage won the Top Energy Saving Household awards, out of which six awardess were given the Super Best Saving Idea Household awards, in appreciation of their innovative and strategic saving ideas. In the housing estate category, Kwong Ming Court in Sai Kung won the Super Energy Saving Housing Estate award, beating entrants from 14 districts. Whilst District Councillor Dennis Leung Tsz-wing from Kwai Tsing collected the Super Energy Saving Community award in the community category. (Please refer to Appendix 1 for full details.)
CLP Power Managing Director Paul Poon said: "It is wonderful to have so much public support for this energy saving competition. The response to last year's challenge was very encouraging. Speaking to the 2013 winners, it is clear that energy saving awareness has been greatly improved in the community. Many of the participants brainstormed energy saving ideas with their family
members. I hope even more people will join the competition this year."
