Comcast Business today announced a major expansion of its network to provide high-speed broadband and its next generation fiber services to underserved commercial areas in Kitsap County. Local businesses will have access to Comcast's commercial Internet service in addition to Ethernet services, which can provide data transport services with speeds up to 10 Gbps and the ability to connect multiple locations.

"The Puget Sound region is widely known as a technology hub. However, there are many commercial areas that suffer from lack of 'last mile' access to high-speed Internet," said Matt Fassnacht, Vice President of Comcast Business for Washington. "This expansion will enable companies in Kitsap County to grow and expand, and attract more economic investment."

Comcast Business is starting its expansion in Silverdale commercial areas, primarily along Silverdale Way NW, NW Myhre and Bucklin Hill Roads. Comcast's expansion includes building to businesses that have specifically requested Comcast's services as well as along certain rights of way within the community. Additional expansions will follow throughout 2014.

"We welcome this timely investment in Kitsap's communication infrastructure, the backbone of our growing knowledge-based economy. It's like adding HOV lanes to Kitsap's already solid information highway," said John Powers, executive director of the Kitsap Economic Development Alliance. "We know businesses need access to high-speed broadband in order to grow and prosper. This increased access will help ensure we continue to have the critical infrastructure upgrades to attract new jobs and even more economic opportunities in Kitsap."

Comcast's Fassnacht added, "Imagine expanding a two-lane highway to a six-lane highway so it carries more traffic at faster speeds. This expansion will bring businesses greater transmission capacity at some of the fastest Internet speeds in the country."
