Comcast today announced a commitment to hire 120 Veterans, National Guard and Reserve Members, and Military Spouses in the Twin Cities before the end of 2017. In recognition of this promise, Comcast officials signed the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Statement of Support, pledging Comcast’s ongoing efforts to hire and support members of the National Guard and Reserve components.

The ceremony included members of the Minnesota National Guard along with Reserve units from the Twin Cities area, as well as more than 50 members of Comcast’s Twin Cities VetNet Employee Support Group. Comcast Vice President for Veteran and Military Affairs, Brigadier General (Ret) Carol Eggert and Regional Vice President, Jeff Freyer hosted the ceremony, which included presentation of colors by the Minnesota Honor Guard.

The 120 positions at Comcast’s Twin Cities Region operations is part of the company’s nationwide goal to add 10,000 veterans to its workforce by the end of 2017. Open positions include a variety of responsibilities and departments, including sales, technical operations, customer service and administrative support. In addition to a full range of health, wellness and personal benefit options, Comcast provides additional benefits for employee members of the National Guard and Reserve such as additional paid time off for military training, and pay differential and continuation of benefits when recalled to active duty.

“Comcast NBCUniversal has a long tradition of hiring and supporting veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses,” said Carol Eggert, Comcast vice president for Military and Veterans Affairs. “Our company founder, Ralph Roberts, was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, and many of our current executive leaders, including CEO Neil Smit, also served in the military. We are proud to have thousands of members of the Military Community working across the country in all levels of the organization.”

“On behalf of the state of Minnesota and the Minnesota Air National Guard, I would like to thank Comcast for their support of our military Servicemen and women,” said Brigadier General Sandy Best, Chief of Staff, Minnesota Air National Guard. “I know first-hand the essential value of an employer’s support of military service and training requirements, and we could not fulfill our National Guard and Reserve Component mission without the kind of rock solid foundation they provide.”

“We value the leadership and unique skills our National Guard and Reserve members bring to the Comcast Twin Cities team,” said Jeff Freyer. “We look to these Citizen Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coastguardsmen to defend and protect our Nation, and they need our commitment of meaningful employment and support to carry out their duties. We’re proud to join ESGR in that effort.”
