ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND:

  • Based on findings from its 5-year progress report, Comcast’s Internet Essentials program has enabled nearly 115,000 low-income families to cross the digital divide
  • In total, roughly 460,000 individuals in the state now participate in the program, making California the #1 state in the nation for Internet Essentials adoption
  • The Internet Essentials Senior Pilot program, which was launched in October last year, has enabled nearly 2,000 senior citizens in San Francisco to gain Internet access
  • Comcast will donate $200,000 to community organizations in San Francisco and Oakland
  • Comcast will donate 100 laptop computers to residents of the Dr. George W. Davis Senior Center in San Francisco’s Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood and another 100 laptops to families who attend the PLACE at Prescott Elementary School in Oakland
