With the City Pass, Deutsche Telekom presents an innovative new solution for urban services in cities at this year's Mobile World Congress. In a first step, City Pass will in future allow citizens to use a wide range of municipal services such as bicycle rental or libraries with just a single account. Cities can freely choose the services they wish to offer on the open platform. Deutsche Telekom now invites all interested cities to jointly tailor the white label solution according to their individual needs.

The City Pass is a further building block in creating the smart city of tomorrow. In a second step from 2019 onwards, it is also conceivable that official civil services, such as applications for identity cards or other documents, will be made possible. 'We want to make cities genuinely smart and not only connect data. With City Pass, we address the varying needs of cities: we offer new digital services for citizens, business and tourists. In addition, we also streamline administrative processes,' explains Markus Keller, Senior Vice President Corporate Innovation and responsible for Smart City at Deutsche Telekom.

Being based on blockchain technology, the information generated through the use of the City Pass is no longer only stored centrally. Thanks to two-way encryption, data cannot be manipulated. Furthermore, diverse services providers can thereby join City Pass, enabling citizens to benefit from these services too. In this way, transactions can then also be directly settled between the partners via the City Pass.

At the beginning, every citizen receives a starter set from the city - the contents of which are decided upon by the city individually. This may include vouchers or credit for rental services or public facilities such as swimming pools.

With a single smartphone app, City Pass can replace many of the numerous cards and memberships commonly found in wallets today. Deutsche Telekom is additionally also deliberately providing it in a classic credit card format. With its constant presence in the wallet, if desired, the City Pass is thereby always available, making one's own city easier to experience than ever.
