• T-Systems and SBB have signed another major contract
  • The entire SBB SAP infrastructure is to be transformed to the cloud
  • Platform-as-a-service infrastructure for databases, middleware and Web servers

The journey continues: Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen (SBB - Swiss Federal Railways) and T-Systems are pursuing the transformation of the SBB infrastructure to the cloud. Following the successful transferral this year by T‑Systems Switzerland of some of its cloud -compatible applications to the cloud, SBB is now following suit with its SAP infrastructure. Databases, applications and middleware are also being examined to check their cloud-compatibility.

The contract covers, on the one hand, virtual systems and SAP HANA appliances, which will be made available in the future as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). The second part of the contract deals with 'Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)' services, which are brought together in a platform based on Red Hat's OpenShift . T-Systems provides pre-configured, scalable components for middleware, databases and Web servers which can be selected, configured and rolled out via a self-service portal by a simple mouse click.

The solution is based on a combination of international and local services. T‑Systems is developing a cloud in Switzerland in which applications can be operated with stringent Service Level Agreements (SLA) and rapid response times.
