Sunday 21 December set to be busiest day for easyJet's festive flying with more than 170,000 customers predicted to fly, and a record of over 1.5m passengers during the Christmas period

This Saturday and Sunday is predicted to be the busiest Christmas getaway weekend in the airline's history with numbers peaking on Sunday 21 December when more than 170,000 passengers will fly on over 1200 flights across the network. A record 1.5m passengers will fly with the airline between 20 and 29 December on over 11,000 flights with passengers travelling early to avoid the last minute Christmas eve rush.

In the UK alone, over 100,000 passengers are set to fly to or from easyJet's UK airports on 740 flights on Sunday, toppling another record for the most customers travelling with the airline on one day during the Christmas getaway.

Belfast and Edinburgh top the list of most popular destinations with many customers returning home to spend Christmas with their families. Edinburgh also remains popular as the New Year approaches. Geneva makes it into the top three as it's extremely popular for those heading to the alps and hitting the slopes, using the Swiss city as a gateway.

Sophie Dekkers, Director UK Market, easyJet said:

"We are seeing high demand across our 700+ route network peaking on Sunday 21 December as more people than ever before are flying either home or on holiday with us this Christmas in what will be our busiest Christmas ever.

"The Christmas period has always been one of our busiest times of year for our customers and this year will be no exception. Whether customers are flying to visit friends and family or incorporating skiing into their Christmas breaks by flying via Geneva, we are doing everything possible to make our customer's Christmas travel as easy and of course, affordable as possible."
