LAKESIDE, U.K. …Employees of power management company Eaton's aerospace facility in Lakeside were recognized for outstanding safety performance by Chairman and CEO Sandy Cutler during the 2015 Eaton Safety Awards presentation. The awards programme recognizes outstanding safety performance, leadership and innovation at Eaton sites worldwide. The Lakeside facility received a Gold Award for demonstrating leadership and consistent performance across a range of safety indicators.

"This award reflects our commitment to operating a safe workplace where every employee is directly involved in improving our safety culture and health," said Claire Wells, manager of environmental, health and safety for the Lakeside facility. "Focused leadership and employee engagement are key elements in Eaton's safety programmes, and we're encouraged every day to look for ways to improve safety and health at our site."

The facility has developed several tools and processes to increase employee involvement in improving safety, including a hazard-reporting programme. By participating in routine safety walks and completing hazard-recognition sheets, employees not only identify but also correct workplace hazards in areas such as fire safety, housekeeping, and machinery safety.

Safety is the first agenda item at every meeting and provides opportunities for employees to discuss observations, incidents, near misses, and lessons learned. The facility's safety team meets monthly with departmental safety representatives to address site-wide issues and concerns to improve safety.
