Community to Offer Short-Term Rehab Stays Raymore, Mo., Nov. 24, 2014 - With the senior population rising in Cass County and across the state, Foxwood Springs is opening a wing that provides dedicated programs and a supportive environment specifically for people needing short-stay therapy. Called Brookdale Signature Suites - Therapy Services, the $300,000 project will serve the public as well as Foxwood Springs residents. It will be officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting at 3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4 at 1500 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore.

Brookdale Signature Suites - Therapy Services offers the spectrum of specialized programs, including cardiac care, orthopedic rehabilitation, stroke recovery, wound care and intravenous therapy. The 5,600-sq.-ft. wing, which can accommodate 12 patients in six rooms, has its own dining area, parking and entrance. These features help create an environment entirely focused on serving those who need rehab for just a short time.

"It is designed for people who typically need a short few-week stay," said Tracy Bohrer, health care administrator for Foxwood Springs.  "With the increasing numbers of seniors in the area, we anticipate demand for this kind of service will continue to grow."

People age 65 and above now represent 14% of Cass County's population, compared to 12% in 2008, according to the 2013 Missouri Senior Report. That figure is expected to rise to 18% by 2020 and to almost 23% in 2030. That age group is currently 14% of the statewide population, with the 2020 and 2030 figures projected at 17% and 21% respectively.

In addition to offering the range of needed programs, Brookdale Signature Suites - Therapy Services provides an upbeat environment aimed at addressing the emotional aspects of healing.

"Being in a good frame of mind has a significant impact on physical wellbeing and we've designed the wing to promote positive feelings," Bohrer said. As an example, the dining area offers restaurant-style plated meals to encourage patients to enjoy eating and socializing with others. Room service is available, as well.

Foxwood Springs is a continuing care retirement community that provides independent and assisted living, Alzheimer's and dementia care, and skilled nursing as well as the rehabilitation program. It created Brookdale Signature Suites - Therapy Services by renovating a wing previously serving long-term care residents, who now reside in another area of the community.

"We're very excited about offering this dedicated short-stay rehabilitation program," Bohrer said. "We are proud of our record of outstanding service and outcomes that exceed industry standards and look forward to providing this excellence to those we serve at Brookdale Signature Suites - Therapy Services."
