Dr Paul Bannister receives W.R Ahern Award for best technical paper by AIRAH member

Energy management and procurement company, Energy Action Limited (ASX: EAX) ('Energy Action'), is pleased to announce that the company's Director of Projects & Advisory Services, Paul Bannister, recently won the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) W.R. Ahern award recognising the best technical paper by an AIRAH member published in the preceding year.

Dr Bannister's paper, titled, 'What simulation can tell us about building tuning', looks at how recent advances in building simulation models can help determine the effectiveness of HVAC energy saving strategies.

Paul has extensive experience in the assessment of energy efficiency in commercial buildings and is one of the leading authorities in the sector. He played a key role in the development of Australia's NABERS Energy and Water rating systems and has published more than 80 papers on energy efficiency related issues.
The award win follows on from Dr Bannister's recognition as an Energy Efficiency Champion by the Energy Efficiency Council (EEC) in November 2014, and his recent involvement the improvement of the 87 Marsden St office building in Parramatta, which received the 2013 Energy Efficiency Upgrade of the Year award from the EEC.

Commenting on the award win, Paul said: 'I am thrilled to have received this prestigious award from the AIRAH, recognising my technical paper that assessed the methods in which energy savings from HVAC control modifications can be effectively quantified.

'I am passionate about exploring new ways to generate meaningful energy savings to improve building performance by optimising building controls, and my role at Energy Action provides me with the unique opportunity to undertake this work at some of Australia's most prominent structures.

'This is a growing area of significance as both owners and tenants in Australia and overseas look to improve the energy performance of their buildings.'

He has also been engaged on numerous other high-profile building improvement projects with Energy Action, including the upgrade of Sydney's international award-winning Chifley Tower from zero to four stars NABERS rating, which saw it achieve the global 2015 Performance Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

Dr Bannister has also been engaged by the Better Buildings Partnership in the United Kingdom to develop a scheme to guarantee the in-use energy performance of new offices, based on Australia's NABERS rating scheme. He has also been appointed by the Energy Efficiency Council in Australia to deliver training programs to energy professionals on energy audit compliance, and was recently inducted a fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia.
