24-05-17

Hospital da Luz Lisboa received, last May 19 and 20, the 12th edition of the Shoulder and Elbow Journeys of the Portuguese Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SPOT - Sociedade Portuguesa de Ortopedia e Traumatologia). The event was organized by Eduardo Carpinteiro, Paulo Rego and Raul Alonso (orthopedists from Luz Saúde Shoulder and Elbow Group), registering a large participation of national specialists, with a total of 163 participants.

At the heart of the discussion, in these journeys, were the latest techniques in the treatment of rotator cuff lesions (shoulder tendons) and the more frequent pathologies of the elbow. Throughout the two days, the participants had the opportunity to hear three of the top European specialists in the area, which talked about their experience: Hans Kaspar Schwyzer (Orthopedics Director of the Schulthess Clinic in Zurich, the most prominent in Europe in the field), Fernando Garcia de Lucas (from Clinica Cemtro in Madrid, specialized in elbow), and Miguel Ruiz Ibán (professor at the University Hospital Ramón Y Cajal, in Madrid).

The works were inaugurated by José Roquette (clinical director of Hospital da Luz Lisboa), Paulo Rego (director of the Orthopedics Service) and Fernando Fonseca (president of SPOT). These journeys were also the opportunity to present Rui Claro, from Hospital de São João (Oporto), as the new president of the SPOT Section of Shoulder and Elbow.
