'One Day for Your Health' at Hospital da Luz Setúbal with Great Approval

The initiative 'One Day for Your Health' organized by Hospital da Luz Setúbal to celebrate the International Nurses Day (May 12) registered the participation of 163 persons, 30% of which ignored the risk factors of diabetes and hypertension they were diagnosed with.

The Nursing Direction of the hospital, responsible for the organization, considered that the initiative, opened to the general public, surpassed all expectations.

From 10:00 a.m. to 18:00 p.m., on May 12, a team of 14 nurses made questionnaires, provided explanations and made measurements of weight, capillary glycemia and arterial pressure.

Of the 163 people assisted, the majority was aged between 20 and 50, and about 70% were female. In terms of the risk factors distribution, 19% were identified with diabetes family history, 14% not practising exercise, 12% snoring / waking up with dry mouth, 9% practising occasional medium-intensity exercise, 8% with high cholesterol levels, 8% with colon and rectal cancer family history, 8% with breast cancer family history, 8% with sun exposure habits between 12:00-16:00 p.m., 7% ignoring or not regularly monitoring arterial pressure and 7% waking up tired or falling asleep everywhere. After knowing these data, the participants answered on average that they would probably consult their doctor.

The nursing team involved in the initiative was formed by Miguel Veríssimo (coordinator of the initiative), Ana Gião, Andreia Mares, Catarina Oliveira, Cátia Carvalho, Diogo Brites, Helena Alves, Milene Diogo, Rui Pardal, Vanda Deus, Vanda Sousa, Paula Safaneta, Sara Rodrigues and Vanessa Nascimento.
