MARSEILLES, Ill. (June 23, 2017) - Exelon Generation operators removed LaSalle Station Unit 1 from service at 4:10 a.m. today to perform maintenance on a valve that controls one of several backup sources of water to the nuclear reactor. A similar procedure was successfully performed on Unit 2 earlier this year and Exelon Generation made a conservative decision to complete the Unit 1 maintenance to ensure the unit's long-term operation.

Technicians will make the repairs and inspect and test the valve before returning the unit to service. Unit 2 remains at full power and the Unit 1 shutdown will not impact electrical service to customers.

At full power, LaSalle Station's two generating units produce more than 2,300 megawatts of carbon-free electricity, enough to power more than two million typical American homes. LaSalle Station is located about 75 miles southwest of Chicago near Marseilles, Ill.
