Media Release Fortescue brings road safety message to Yandeyarra students Port Hedland, 21 June 2017: Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) and the Road Safety Western Force headed back to school this week to bring road safety messages to students at Yandeyarra Remote Community School.

Led by Fortescue's safety team, the one-day session saw students create artworks promoting road safety messages which will be displayed along Fortescue's rail access road. Students also enjoyed a barbecue lunch and a rugby clinic with Road Safety Western Force players Jono Lance and Ben Daley.

Fortescue Port and Rail General Manager Fernando Pereira said safety is at the core of Fortescue's values and vision.

"At Fortescue, we believe in looking out for our mates and this includes our extended Fortescue family and the communities that are located close to our operations in the Pilbara," Mr Pereira said.

"We are especially proud of the relationships we have built with our Pilbara communities and this road safety session is helping to empower some of the youngest members of the Yandeyarra community make safe decisions in their everyday lives."

Road Safety Western Force fly-half Jono Lance said sharing the road safety message was incredibly important, especially in rural and remote communities.

"As a road safety ambassador it was fantastic to head out to Yandeyarra Remote Community School to promote the great game of rugby, but more importantly to spread the important message of staying safe on our country roads," he said.
