Community fundraising initiatives and events in Port Hedland are set to sizzle, with the launch of the new Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) Community BBQ Trailer.

Constructed in partnership with supplier Shermac, the Fortescue Community BBQ Trailer is a free service available to eligible Port Hedland-based community, non-profit and sporting organisations to assist with fundraising and community events.

The trailer is fully equipped with a slide-out BBQ, fold out fridges, TV screen, speaker system and storage space, with Fortescue providing all BBQ ingredients and materials along with volunteers to coordinate the use of the trailer.

Hedland Operations General Manager Fernando Pereira said Fortescue was a proud member of the Port Hedland community, with a majority of its Pilbara residential workforce based in Port and South Hedland.

'At Fortescue, we want to ensure that communities continue to benefit from our growth and development,' Mr Pereira said.

'There are many organisations throughout Port Hedland which rely on fundraising activities to provide a wide variety of services to the local community.

'Through the Fortescue Community Support program, we invested $145,000 to support community organisations throughout the Pilbara in FY17 and we will continue to support these groups with the new Fortescue Community BBQ Trailer.'

Shermac Director Robert Ray said they were pleased to donate the custom-made BBQ trailer to the Fortescue community team, which would support activities benefitting the community.

'Being based in regional WA, Shermac understands the importance of community support and appreciates what companies like Fortescue have done for regional areas,' he said.
