Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Fujitsu Limited have announced their agreement to discuss a partnership in the information systems business, which would involve Fujitsu's acquisition of 51% of YJK Solutions Co., Ltd. (YJK), a 100% subsidiary of NYK. YJK handles the development, operation, and maintenance of information systems.

Moving forward, NYK and Fujitsu will have concrete discussions about their business partnership and joint management of YJK. If a final agreement is reached, a formal contract would be signed by the end of March 2015, and subsequently, YJK would conduct business as a jointly managed company from April 1, 2015.

As a result of this partnership, NYK would be able to utilize the comprehensive strength of Fujitsu's ICT, with the objective of obtaining high-value added ICT services with enhanced Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) through YJK.

Fujitsu could utilize the abundant experience and know-how of YJK, gained in the shipping, distribution and harbor transport business as an information system subsidiary of the NYK Group, to enhance its ICT services for the shipping and international logistics industry, so as to aggressively expand its business.

After joint management commences, YJK would aim to combine its vast experience and latest technology of Fujitsu's ICT with its own human resources, who have acquired operational know-how gained in the shipping, distribution, and harbor transport business. Through this, YJK would aim to become an ICT services company equipped with technological and managerial strength. YJK will be able to continue providing ICT services with further enhanced QCD to the NYK Group, and even further raise competitiveness in its direct sales business.
